Course Description:
Ethics in Psychotherapy: Practical Tips III is a 2-hour online continuing education (CE) course that addresses a variety of ethics topics.

This course for psychotherapists of all specialties addresses a variety of ethics topics in the form of 12 archived articles from The National Psychologist. Included are monographs on the “do no harm" principle, competencies in expanding to new areas of practice, mandatory reporting, the principle of beneficence, avoiding client bias in custody cases, avoiding legal and ethical pitfalls with borderline patients, unacceptable patient behavior, delegation of work to others, integrating spirituality and religion into clinical practice, legal and ethical restraints in advertising, boundary “crossings” vs. boundary “violations,” and the ethical and legal necessity of a professional will.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify three sets of APA practice guidelines that might be useful in expanding one’s competency in child custody evaluations
• List four actions that psychologists can take to assure ethical compliance with mandatory reporting statutes
• Identify contemporary complexities in the principle of beneficence within the context of military or law enforcement consultation
• Summarize Hiebel’s credo for psychologists reporting the results of their findings in custody cases
• List three reasons for psychologists to be educated about the potential role of spirituality in psychotherapy
• Distinguish between boundary crossings and boundary violations as described by Zur
