Emotional Intelligence Series: 2. Self-Management - Leader versus Manager is organized by Florida Medical Association (FMA).
Issue Date: September 1, 2021
Expiration Date: September 1, 2023
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Description:
This course is the second in a series of four modules on Emotional Intelligence. Modules 2-4 each include a brief recap of the previous module so learners may choose to complete some or all of these modules based on their own personal and professional goals. The intent of this series is to provide physicians with a deeper level of understanding of emotional intelligence and how emotions can drive behavior and impact people both positively and negatively. Managing emotions (both your own and those around you) can be particularly important in many professional situations like giving and receiving feedback, meeting deadlines, dealing with challenging relationships (colleagues and patients), navigating organizational change, handling negotiations and disagreements, and working through setbacks and conflicts. This second module addresses self-management and emphasizes the differences between leadership and management, with an overall goal to help physicians understand how they might need to incorporate both sets of skills to succeed in their practice
Objectives:
As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
• Identify the difference between leading and managing
• Describe the four leadership disciplines
• Recognize when to lead and when to manage
• Implement strategies to "Feed Forward"
