Description:
The purpose of this self-study is to provide the dental professional with a review of necessary information regarding dental water lines and water line maintenance. This course will provide review of current recommendations related to waterline testing and regulations.

This self - study is designed around the idea that there is always something to be learned! The following content is designed to provide both recent graduates and experienced clinicians with evidence - based information that can be used in the clinical setting. Specifically, this course is designed to aid the clinician in improving and maintaining the quality of the dental waterlines.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

Define Dental Unit Waterlines (DUWL)
Define biofilm
Identify the types of disease-causing microorganisms found in DUWLs
Recognize the risks associated with DUWLs
Identify the measurement limit for colony forming units (CFU/mL) as determined by the CDC
Compare guidelines and recommendations from the ADA, CDC, EPA, and OSAP regarding DUWLs
Identify methods for improving water quality of DUWLs
Examine methods and products for maintaining DUWLs
Compare testing methods for monitoring DUWLs
Describe the importance of DUWL management systems
