Course Description:
Diabetes and wound care course on identifying and treating diabetic foot ulcers in patients. This online continuing education course is applicable for nursing, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Course covers all aspects of diabetic foot care, including prevention, foot assessment, management of foot ulcers, and amputation. A diabetic foot ulcer picture is shown in the course.

Course Learning Objectives
1) Identify the prevalence and impacts of diabetic foot ulcers.
2) Describe the elements of an interdisciplinary approach to care.
3) Discuss the importance of effective patient teaching.
4) Summarize the importance of preventive measures for diabetic foot care.
5) Describe the role of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and Charcot osteoarthropathy in the development of diabetic foot ulcers.
6) List the steps that comprise a foot assessment in patients with diabetes.
7) Summarize the management program for patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
8) Describe the important components of off-loading in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.
9) Discuss amputation as it relates to diabetic foot ulcers.
