Conference Objectives are :
• Define the differential diagnosis of amnestic mild cognitive impairment and describe its prognostic significance.
• Compare and contrast frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in terms of clinical presentation and pathology.
• Recognize the importance of genetic counseling prior to genetic testing for dominant forms of AD and frontotemporal dementia.
• Discuss the role of genetic testing for familial forms of Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Huntington’s disease.
• Review characteristics of the most common causes of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular cognitive impairment, and Lewy body disease.
• Identify focal cortical syndromes that may occur in the setting of stroke or dementia disorders, including Gerstmann’s syndrome, Anton’s syndrome, and alexia without agraphia.
• Define potential preventive strategies for dementias supported by epidemiological data.
