In this podcast, Dr. Katherine Galluzzi will answer frequently asked questions regarding opioid therapy, such as: Best practices for tapering opioids; Assessing for opioid use disorder and distinguishing between tolerance, dependence, misuse, and abuse; Strategies for counseling patients with pain; Nonpharmacologic and non-opioid treatment options; and What to do when a patient approaches the “ceiling” of safe opioid dosing.

Learning Objectives:
• Differentiate among tolerance, physical dependence, and manifestations of opioid use disorder
• Identify strategies for ongoing safe and effective use of opioids in patients with chronic pain, including titration, referral, and discontinuation, when appropriate
