Course Description:
Estimates indicate that approximately 30% of children and adolescents and over 20% of adults are impacted by chronic pain. Pain, particularly chronic pain, can have adverse outcomes on people multiple facets of life.

This training provides a framework to understand the nature and derivation of pain across the lifespan. A special focus will be devoted to varying understandings of pain, options for assessing pain, and treatment options. Co-occurring, comorbid conditions will be discussed with an emphasis on at-risk populations who may experience chronic pain.

Supports and strategies will be discussed aimed to improve quality of life and enhance comfort for children and adolescents living with chronic pain. This incudes: CBT, visualization, meditation, mindfulness, self-compassion, breathing techniques, and yoga.

Learning Objectives:
Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate multiple understandings of pain and the derivation of pain.
  • Describe chronic pain and the impact on clients across the lifespan.
  • Recall at least 5 different treatment options and strategies, including CBT and mindfulness to support individuals living with chronic pain.
