The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Virtual Review Course in Addiction Medicine 2021 is organized by American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and will be held from Jul 22 - 24, 2021.

Target Audience:
The ASAM Virtual Review Course provides an up-to-date review of the core content of addiction medicine for:
• Physicians preparing for the ABPM Board Certification Examination in addiction medicine
• Addiction specialists seeking a "refresher" course that incorporates recent developments in addiction science and practice
• Non-specialist physicians and other healthcare professionals seeking the knowledge to identify and manage problems related to substance use disorders for their patients

Accreditation:
AMA Credit Designation
The American Society of Addiction Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
The AAFP has reviewed The ASAM Virtual Review Course and deemed it acceptable for up to 18.50 In-Person, Live (could include online) AAFP Prescribed credit. Term of Approval is from 07/22/2021 to 07/24/2021. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM)
The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) has approved this activity for a maximum of 18.5 LLSA credits towards ABPM MOC Part II requirements.

American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn a maximum of 18.5 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 18.5 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credits.

The Essential Primer in Addiction Medicine…
The ASAM Review Course has a major impact on helping physicians prepare for the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) examination and increasing attendees’ knowledge on addiction. This two-and-a-half-day course is mapped to the addiction medicine exam blueprint and features outstanding faculty in a completely online platform.

The course offers two-and-a-half days of live-stream lectures that will also include engagement activities from Thursday, July 22 to Saturday, July 24. The session topics are mapped to the addiction medicine exam blueprint and feature an outstanding lineup of faculty. New this year will be scheduled opportunities to network with faculty and colleagues. Following the event, all sessions will be available on-demand for the next three years in ASAM’s e-Learning Center.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
• Demonstrate practical knowledge on the neurobiology of addiction and articulate its activity in terms useful in a clinical setting
• Describe the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in both tolerant and non-tolerant individuals
• Describe the process for diagnosing addiction and differentiating the symptoms of addiction from those of other medical or psychiatric disorders
• Explain the various pharmacologic and psychosocial treatments for addictive disorders and describe the factors that should be considered in selecting a treatment modality to match the needs of a specific patient
• Describe the precipitants of relapse and current evidence-based practices to prevent and manage relapse.
