Practical Ways to Achieve Targets in Diabetes Care (ATDC) Conference is organized by Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) and will be held from Jul 15 - 18, 2021.

Target Audience:
This is an annual course designed to help healthcare providers caring for patients with diabetes, including but not limited to: endocrinologists/diabetes specialists, internists, pediatricians, family physicians, physician assistants, medical residents and fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, social workers, and certified diabetes educators.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Accreditation:
The University of Colorado School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 25.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD):
This offering for a total of 24.85 contact hours (pharmacology contact hours for APRNs TBD) is provided by the University of Colorado College of Nursing Office of Continuing Education.

Social Work Credit (LCSWs, LSWs and other mental health professionals):
The Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers allots 25.75 credit hours for the successful completion of this activity.

Description:
Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with leaders in the field and participate in detailed question and answer sessions with the experts. For insulin-requiring patients with diabetes (especially type 1), there will be multiple plenaries on emerging diabetes technologies including: CGMs, pumps, hybrid-closed loop systems. Since hypoglycemia is a major concern for these patients, alternate ways to deliver insulin (inhaled and newer preparations of glucagon like: nasal or stable) will be discussed. Cardiovascular disease is commonly associated with long-standing diabetes (especially type 2 diabetes), emerging therapies like SGLT2 inhibitors, weekly GLP-1 analogs, and other dual-action GLP/GIP analogs will be discussed regarding their role in individualizing their role in type 2 diabetes.

Objectives:
Upon completion of the program, the participant should be able to:
• Evaluate ways to better improve glucose control;
• Compare effective ways to lose weight;
• Identify how to better reduce cardiovascular and renal death;
• Prepare to implement advanced closed-loop systems;
• Contrast ways to reduce the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Upon completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
• Assess patients’ abilities to meet targets, and help them utilize the proper medications and technologies to achieve those targets.
