Description:
The aging population presents the dental team with the unique challenges associated with providing dental treatment to an increasing number of medically compromised patients. Among these challenges is the possibility of encountering an in-office medical emergency. When a medical emergency strikes, it is vital that all members of the dental team are prepared to respond effectively. This course will discuss the most common medical emergencies encountered in the dental office, the equipment every dental office should have, and the systematic team approach to managing an in-office emergency.

Course Objectives:

Recognize the most common medical emergencies that occur in the dental office;
Identify patients at risk for medical emergencies;
Identify equipment utilized for medical emergencies in the dental office;
Understand how to systematically manage in-office medical emergencies utilizing all members of the dental team; and
Review pertinent Kentucky statutes.
