Course Description:
DOCS Education offers a training program for Master Series: Advanced Sedation where you will gain the knowledge and confidence to safely sedate medically complex ASA III+ patients in your practice, rather than referring them out. Includes a copy of the award-winning The Ultimate Cheat Sheets chairside resource. 

Individuals suffering from chronic medical and psychological problems are one of the fastest-growing segments of your patient population. Advanced sedation dentistry is the safest and least stressful way for them to receive care. This masters-level sedation training program will provide advanced clinical training for general dentists in the pharmacology, physiology, psychology, and clinical techniques necessary to safely treat ASA III+ patients with asthma, diabetes, bleeding disorders, and more. 

Course Objectives:

  • Learn critical facts on next-generation medications that go beyond coumadin and Plavix.
  • Review premedication guidelines for prosthetic joints and post-sedation analgesics.
  • Discuss new guidelines on bisphosphonate/osteonecrosis of the jaw.
  • Learn how to manage sedation patients with stage 1 or stage 2 hypertension.
  • Identify the categorization of congestive heart failure (CHF) in sedation patients.
  • Discuss management of the risk of life-threatening VT/VF in sedation patients.
  • Learn management of anticoagulation in sedation patients.
  • Understand monitoring requirements of sedation patients with CHF.
  • Learn how to address a history of excessive alcohol use in sedation patients.
  • Review management of sedation patients with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Learn new metformin guidelines for Type 2 diabetic patients.
  • Identify the influence of nicotine on the sedation protocol.
  • Understand obstructive lung diseases including asthma and COPD before sedation.
  • Review the different types of restrictive lung diseases in the sedation patient.
  • Review diagnostic tests, treatment, and sedation for patients with respiratory disease.
  • Answer the questions surrounding sleep apnea and sedation dentistry.
