OVERVIEW

Fitness Athlete: Level 2 Online is organized by Institute of Clinical Excellence (ICE) and will be held from Jan 12 - Mar 08, 2027.

Course Overview:
This 8 week online course is designed for physical therapists and chiropractors with an existing foundation in working with fitness athletes who want to take their treatment and coaching skills to the next level after taking Fitness Athlete - L1 Online. The fitness athlete is already committed to his or her own health and wellness but faces unique problems with lifestyle integration, training program development, and movement dysfunctions that impair performance.

The Level 2 course takes a deep dive into the advanced principles required to truly specialize in this space. You’ll learn how to design and critique programming for strength, hypertrophy, and conditioning — and how to integrate these principles into the rehab setting for elite performance outcomes. Topics include:

  • Programming mastery: Strength and hypertrophy programming best practices for the fitness athlete.
  • CrossFit® programming analysis: Understanding volume, intensity, and movement patterns to prevent overload and optimize recovery.
  • Skill development: Deep dives into the Olympic lifts and advanced gymnastics skills including bar muscle-ups, ring muscle-ups, toes-to-bar, and handstand push-ups.
  • Accessory work design: Write programs to build mobility, gymnastics, and hypertrophy programs that complement WODs.
  • Career growth: How to market yourself as the go-to clinician for fitness athletes in your community.
Format:

All content (videos, resources, etc) through our online learning platform with discussion facilitated through the ICE Physio App.

Live video conference calls take place weekly to discuss content and dive deeper into the material. These meetings take place on Tuesdays at 8 PM EST and are recorded if you cannot attend live. While live attendance is optional, you will be responsible for viewing the recording afterwards as you will be assessed on the content discussed.

Objectives:

  • Course participants will understand how to write fitness programs with the goal of muscle hypertrophy and/or strength
  • Course participants will learn the basic methodology of CrossFit training, as well as how to write constant varied, functional fitness programs
  • Course participants will learn to write accessory mobility programs to help functional fitness athletes improve their movement capacity
  • Course participants will learn to analyze advanced Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics movements commonly performed by functional fitness athletes
