Cultural Diversity and Social Justice is organized by Association for Advanced Training in the Behavioral Sciences (AATBS) and will be held on Jun 13, 2024.

Description:
This course is designed to teach awareness, knowledge, and understanding of issues related to cultural diversity and social justice as they apply to clinical practice. Students will gain an understanding of current terminology, theoretical frameworks, and considerations for practice. The topics in this course include cultural diversity, social justice, intersectionality, lived experience, microaggression, macroaggression, equality vs. equity, power and privilege, and oppression and marginalization.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to…

  • Provide three current examples of social injustice in the field of psychology.
  • Define equality and equity and provide a clear distinction between these two concepts.
  • Evaluate a client’s presenting concerns using one critical theory.
  • Identify two changes practitioners can make in their own practice to provide more equitable care.
  • Approach one case conceptualization with a systems perspective.
