OVERVIEW

British Menopause Society (BMS) Menopause Masterclass is organized by British Menopause Society (BMS) and will be held on Nov 14, 2024.

Description:
Unscheduled bleeding on HRT:
• This session will look at the recommendations from the new BMS guideline and consider cases that illustrate the practical application of this guidance.

Dementia – is HRT the answer:
• According to Dementia UK, the risk of a person over age 65 developing Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia doubles every 5 years. Twice as many women over age 65 are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s than men, implying that hormones may play a part. If the incidence of Alzheimer’s increases post-menopause, is there a role for HRT in prevention What about the effect of different types or routes of delivery of HRT? This session will review the current data and provide take-home messages to consider in discussion with patients.

Measuring estradiol serum levels:
• There is no current guidance on measuring estradiol levels and confusion exists as to what is normal.  This session will look at how estrogens are metabolized, what expected serum levels may be, and how they can significantly fluctuate physiologically, in perimenopause, and with different forms of HRT.
