Description:
Cardiorespiratory dysfunction can interfere with the optimization of client functional goal attainment. The purpose of this course is to provide clinicians with evidence-based tools for examination and intervention of the patient with cardiorespiratory dysfunction. Course will review the availability of examination tools to evaluate airway, breathing and circulation impairments for various client populations (pediatric through geriatric) and evidence-based intervention tools that will optimize client outcomes. Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Correctly identify pertinent anatomical landmarks essential for appropriate cardiorespiratory examination and intervention.
  2. Accurately identifying neuromuscular, integumentary, and musculoskeletal pathologies that lead to cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
  3. Describe the impact of the airway, ventilatory and circulatory systems on participation in activities of daily living, such as dressing, feeding, and bathing.
  4. Analyze examination of the airway, ventilatory and circulatory systems of a client.
  5. Correlate gait impairments found on examination to appropriate evidence-based intervention
  6. Implement a treatment plan to address cardiorespiratory dysfunction while maximizing functional performance and participation in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, such as household management and meal preparation.
