OVERVIEW

#7363 Ocular Motor Skills for Classroom Success is organized by MotivationsCEU and will be held on Aug 13, 2026.

Description:
This continuing education course provides occupational therapy practitioners with a practical understanding of how ocular motor skills—specifically saccades, pursuits, and fixation endurance— support classroom performance in reading and writing tasks. Participants will explore the functional role of these visual skills, identify how deficits may present as academic struggles or behavioral concerns, and distinguish between appropriate OT screening and referral indicators.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Differentiate the roles of saccades, pursuits, and fixation endurance in supporting reading and writing tasks
  2. Identify at least three observable signs of ocular motor dysfunction in the classroom.
  3. Design and implement at least two evidence-informed intervention strategies (desk-based and/or movement-based) to support ocular motor skills, and describe their expected impact on reading
fluency, copying accuracy, or sustained attention.
