#7210 The Neurologic Upper Extremity I: Preparations and Impairment is organized by MotivationsCEU and will be held on Jun 26, 2027.
Time:
10 AM- 12 PM EST
Description:
Treat the entire upper extremity kinematic chain; not just arm movement! In the first part of this two-part course series, Dr. Steve Page integrates lecture, video, and case examples to discuss the upper extremity kinematic chain. Specific discussions include comprehensive evaluation and treatment of the core, posture, scapulae, and hemiplegic shoulder, and body/arm positioning, and their relative contributions to upper extremity motor performance and function. Dr. Page will integrate biomechanical assessment and clinical problem-solving skills to prioritize impairments and progress interventions. A mixture of demonstrations will be used to allow immediate incorporation into practice. These treatment ideas will include priority stretches, low/high tone, subluxation, pain, and functional activities. Note: This is the first course in a two-part series focusing on management and restoration of the paretic upper extremity. Course instruction method includes: Lecture, Demonstration, Vides, Case Studies, Question/Answer, Group Discussion.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify resources available to stay up to date on evidence based assessments and interventions
2. Name the components comprising the upper extremity kinematic chain
3. Describe the application of two scapular mobility strategies to maximize ROM during ADLs or leisure pursuits.
4. Identify and describe two strategies to address the painful and/or subluxed shoulder
5. Identify open and closed chain strategies to be used for the paretic shoulder and upper extremity based on presentation
6. Identify three applicable clinical practice guidelines for the shoulder and upper extremity
