Suicide in Older Adults: June 2025 is organized by Healio.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the primary factors contributing to suicide risk among older adults, the theoretical frameworks of geriatric suicide, and the different levels of intervention in geriatric suicide prevention. 
  2. Evaluate underlying factors affecting suicidal behaviors in patients with different types of neurocognitive disorders and basic suicide prevention strategies for this population.
  3. Identify key biological, psychological, and social factors contributing to suicide risk in older adults with mood disorders, and evidence-based strategies for assessment, prevention, and treatment.
  4. Understand the transference phenomena of suicidal older patients and the danger of a psychotherapist’s identification with the patient’s suicidal desires.
