Essentials Courses are sessions captured at past RSNA Annual Meetings. General radiologists, residents, and other subspecialists who want to review other areas of radiology may be interested in taking these online courses. Most courses include an audio-visual presentation, as well as a corresponding transcript. Essentials courses are free to members.

Objectives:
• Review the disease entities relevant in the setting of acute aortic emergencies.
• Describe recent CT technological advancements relevant to the setting.
• Assess the value of CT imaging in the diagnosis of acute aortic emergencies.
• Explain why the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension, in and of itself, is not sufficient to guide patient management.
• Describe the principles of the current mechanistic classification of pulmonary hypertension.
• Assess how CT and MR can provide crucial information regarding not only the diagnosis but also the underlying pathophysiologic mechanism of pulmonary hypertension.
• Develop a strategy for rational, evidence-based utilization of CT and MR in a patient with suspected pulmonary hypertension.
• Describe the advantages and limitations of assessing coronary artery disease with coronary CT angiography.
• List major clinical studies showing the benefits of cardiac MR and CT.
• Describe important details from these studies that will convince referring physicians selecting the right patients at the right point in time for cardiac MR and CT.
