Statement of Learning Need:
Available evidence clearly shows that Alzheimer’s disease is a very common, serious, and growing public healthcare problem. A need exists for highquality education for health clinicians to understand how to best approach symptomatic relief through pharmacologic therapy as well as environmental and psychosocial interventions important to the Alzheimer’s patient treatment plan.

Course Purpose:
To provide health clinicians with current information on the epidemiology, etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatments for Alzheimer’s disease.

Course Summary:
Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic, progressive neurological disorder that causes profound cognitive and behavioral impairments. It is the most common cause of dementia in older adults. A person’s genetics, lifestyle, and environment play a part in the development of the disease, but the cause of Alzheimer’s disease is not known. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease and attempts at finding easily applied preventative measures have not been successful. The treatment for Alzheimer’s disease at this point focuses on symptomatic relief.
