OVERVIEW

Head & Neck Free Flap Surgery Course is organized by AdventHealth Nicholson Center and will be held from Sep 15 - 16, 2025 at AdventHealth Nicholson Center, Celebration, Florida, United States of America.

Description:
This course is designed to help surgeons improve their skills in head and neck reconstruction surgery following ablative resection for benign and malignant diseases. Led by experienced surgeons, it includes both educational sessions and practical workshops focusing on various skin flap procedures, such as muscle, facial, bone, and perforator-based flaps.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from skilled faculty members through hands-on laboratory exercises, exploring common local/regional and free flap options for head and neck defect reconstruction. The course also covers advanced techniques, best practices for achieving optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes, and addressing common complications. Additionally, discussions will include new and less conventional flap procedures like Pedicle and Microsurgical flaps, providing participants with a comprehensive learning experience.

Learning Objectives:
As a result of participation in this program participants should be able to:

  • Identify defects and/or analyze existing defects in surgical candidates.
  • Determine indications and treatment options for free flap candidates.
  • Analyze the functional needs of reconstruction to reach patient specific goals.
  • Apply various flap harvest surgical techniques.
  • Discuss common surgical complications and possible solutions.
  • Identify steps to virtual surgical planning and computer-assisted designs for bony reconstructive surgery options.
  • Describe dental rehabilitation and prosthesis options for perioperative management.
