CV disease is the leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States, with rates escalating due to the increasing prevalence of pre-existing conditions and the challenges of advancing maternal age. This course offers a vital opportunity to engage with experts in the field, exploring cutting-edge strategies and evolving practices that aim to improve the diagnosis and care of patients of childbearing age.

Goal:
The overall goal is to improve maternal and fetal/neonatal outcomes by providing the cardiovascular care team with up-to-date, evidence-based guidance on the evaluation, risk assessment, clinical management, and treatment of individuals with-or at risk for-cardiovascular disease during pregnancy.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Develop a team-based care plan using shared decision making for pregnant patients with cardiac disease.
• Evaluate the safety of medications commonly used to treat heart failure, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, familial hypercholesterolemia, and arrhythmias for pregnant and lactating individuals.
• Apply best practices in shared decision-making when caring for pregnant patients with valvular heart disease. 
• Identify the appropriate tool(s) to risk stratify patients across the spectrum of congenital heart diseases.
• Construct a guideline-directed treatment plan for pregnant patients with supraventricular tachycardias, including atrial fibrillation, and ventricular arrhythmias.
• Articulate unique aspects of the diagnosis and management of hypertension in pregnant and postpartum individuals.
• Describe how a diversified workforce can address and reduce disparities in maternal outcomes.
• Select the appropriate diagnostic imaging for a broad spectrum of cardio-obstetric patients, including those with suspected acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, vascular conditions, and valvular heart disease.
• Identify cardiomyopathy in pregnancy and implement guideline-directed treatments.
