OVERVIEW

ADHD, Autism and Intellectual Disability (ID) in Adults 2025 is organized by Evidence Based Sweden AB, Physicians' Institute for Professional Development in Healthcare / Lakarnas institut for professionell utveckling i sjukvarden (LIPUS) and will be held from Sep 24 - 26, 2025 at Elite Hotel Marina Plaza, Helsingborg, Helsingborg, Scania, Sweden.

Description:
The course has been developed to increase the knowledge of ST doctors and to meet the need for further education in the subject for specialists. ADHD and autism are functional disabilities that affect cognitive ability and how people function in everyday life. More and more people are being diagnosed with ADHD and autism, partly due to increased knowledge.

Special skills development is also needed regarding ADHD and autism in the elderly. Approximately 3 percent of the elderly (over 65 years of age) probably have ADHD or autism, many without having undergone a neuropsychiatric evaluation.

Overall goals:
The course aims to convey current theoretical and practical knowledge about certain developmental cognitive disabilities (ADHD, autism, intellectual disability/ID) in adults.
Neuropsychiatric disabilities correspond to the English neurodevelopmental disorders, NDD . However, the English neuropsychiatric disorders are a broader concept, which can also include, for example, dementia. This course focuses only on NDD in adults and the elderly.

Results for the participant:
After the course, the participant should be able to:

  • Current theories for the emergence of ADHD, autism and ID respectively
  • Describe methods for investigating and determining the patient's cognitive function
  • Diagnosis of ADHD, autism and ID in adults, as well as any concomitant mental illness
  • Conduct adequate diagnostic work within psychiatry regarding ADHD, autism and ID in adults
  • Explain what is meant by cognitive function and developmental cognitive impairment, and explain how intellectual functions are measured
  • Diagnosing and treating co-occurring mental illness
  • Make adequate differential diagnostic considerations, both in relation to other NDDs and in relation to mental and somatic concomitant illness
  • Assess the need for psychiatric treatment and/or habilitation interventions
  • Collaborate with the patient's network when needed.
