OVERVIEW

General Day 2: Right Heart and Pulmonary Hypertension is organized by The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and will be held on Jan 21, 2027 at The Royal Society of Medicine in London, England, United Kingdom.

Description:
Join the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Cardiology Section for a focused study day exploring the diagnosis and management of pulmonary hypertension (PH), from recognising the condition and understanding its causes to referral, advanced treatment and transplantation. Designed for cardiology, respiratory and rheumatology resident doctors and consultants, as well as heart failure specialists, the meeting will provide a comprehensive overview of a complex and often under-recognised condition.

Pulmonary hypertension can be difficult to identify and may be misdiagnosed or diagnosed late, contributing to significant morbidity and mortality. Through expert-led lectures, patient perspectives and practical guidance, this meeting will explore how greater awareness of PH can support earlier recognition, appropriate investigation and timely referral to specialist centres.

Aims of the event:

  • To provide cardiology, respiratory and rheumatology clinicians with a structured approach to recognising pulmonary hypertension and identifying appropriate referral pathways
  • To develop practical knowledge of the diagnostic approaches, treatment strategies and referral pathways for pulmonary hypertension, supporting earlier recognition and more effective management in clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes:
By attending this meeting, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the different causes and classifications of pulmonary hypertension and their implications for clinical practice
  • Apply appropriate diagnostic approaches to suspected pulmonary hypertension, including echocardiography and right heart catheterisation
  • Identify patients who require referral to a specialist pulmonary hypertension centre
  • Evaluate current treatment strategies for pulmonary hypertension, including emerging therapies
  • Assess the management of pulmonary hypertension in specific clinical contexts, including pregnancy, adult congenital heart disease, acute pulmonary embolism and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension
  • Apply appropriate approaches to the assessment and management of acute pulmonary hypertension presentations and emergencies
  • Evaluate advanced treatment options, including interventional, surgical and transplant approaches
