West Midlands Emergency Surgical Skills Course is organized by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust and will be held on Oct 06, 2026 at West Midlands Surgical Training Centre, Coventry, England, United Kingdom.

Description:
This course uses a blended learning approach to provide the knowledge and skills to perform life-saving procedures in the emergency department or pre-hospital setting. Candidates will receive four weeks access to a virtual learning environment featuring lectures and video skill demonstrations from subject experts, in addition to the one-day course focusing on hands-on, practical experience performing these skills on cadaveric tissue.

Core skills covered include:

• Lateral canthotomy and cantholysis
• Maxillofacial haemorrhage packing
• Front of Neck Access for Airway emergencies
• Open and Tube Thoracostomy and intercostal drain insertion
• Emergency thoracotomy and cardiac wound control, aortic compression, and cross clamping
• Resuscitative Hysterotomy
• Vascular Access: EZIO, Subclavian lines, and femoral lines
• Limb Amputation (pre-hospital practitioners only)
