Responsibilities and Requirements of Prescribing Schedule II Opioid Drugs is organized by Los Angeles Dental Society (LADS) and will be held on Apr 22, 2026 at IMAN Cultural Center, Los Angeles, California, United States of America.
Description:
This 2 hour course is designed to meet the requirements of the responsibilities and requirements of prescribing Schedule II opioid drugs in the State of California. In order to help guide better decision making for the Dental practitioners, the course will review the history and evolution of Opioids as a treatment in pain management, the pharmacology of opioids, the regulatory requirements for providers and dispensers, best practices for pain management in the Dental Office, management strategies for the vulnerable or substance use disorder patient, and the overall social impact of opioid addiction. There are new tools emerging with non-opioid medications that can work directly to reduce habit forming prescriptions. There are also adjunct medications and affiliated health professionals that can reduce the need for opioids by altering operative and post operative outcomes. The overall goal is to provide additional tools outside of opioids for the practitioner to create more informed decisions, with custom pain management plans that fit the patient and help reduce the impact of the opioid epidemic on our population.
