Postpartum Contraception Training Course is organized by College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (CoSRH) and will be held on Nov 19, 2026 at Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, England, United Kingdom.

Description:
The CoSRH is delighted to offer this one-day postpartum contraception theory and practical training course covering a range of topics related to contraceptive planning after pregnancy.

Please note: This course is aimed at O&G ST1-3 Trainees and those doctors on the O&G specialty portfolio pathway. It is open to other ST levels, however please not it may not be entirely appropriate for other levels

This specialised course aims to provide RCOG Specialty Trainee (ST 1-3) doctors and those doctors on the O&G specialty portfolio pathway with the relevant knowledge and skills as required in their basic Specialty Training Curriculum to enable support for postpartum and post pregnancy patients in making informed decisions about contraception.

The training will be delivered by experts in the field through a variety of interactive learning activities including presentations, case studies, demonstrations and practical procedure training. Delegates will be expected to actively participate and engage with the onsite course and independent learning that includes (but not restricted to) eSRH sessions and Contraception Choices e-learning and relevant CoSRH guidance.

The knowledge and skills acquired in this course will also benefit those wishing to undertake the CoSRH Letters of Competence.

Learning Outcomes:
Delegates will be able to:

  • Perform a post-pregnancy contraception choices consultation as aligned to the UKMEC.
  • Perform a subdermal implant pre-insertion consultation.
  • Demonstrate how to safely insert the subdermal implant on a model-arm.
  • Discuss and assess suitability for use of intrauterine contraception (IUC) after pregnancy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of postpartum IUC insertion techniques and recommended follow-up after vaginal and caesarean birth.
  • Discuss and identify options for postpartum IUC insertion
  • Discuss and assess suitability for emergency contraception after pregnancy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of risks associated with short inter-pregnancy intervals and support informed choice.
