OVERVIEW

Multidisciplinary Guidance in Biliary Complex Interventions Advanced Course is organized by Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer / Institut de Recherche contre les Cancers de l'Appareil Digestif (IRCAD) and will be held from Oct 21 - 22, 2026 at IRCAD France, Strasbourg, Grand Est, France.

Description:
Advanced treatment of complex biliary tract diseases

  • This two-day theoretical and practical course is primarily intended for surgeons, gastroenterologists, and interventional radiologists with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and training them in the advanced treatment of complex biliary tract diseases.
  • This course focuses on two fundamental areas. Firstly, it will address the drainage of malignant proximal biliary strictures, both in the preoperative setting and in tumor palliation.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to engage with and practice current diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Secondly, practical application of modern therapeutic strategies for biliary diseases in patients with altered anatomy or in whom conventional approaches have failed will be explored, incorporating innovative technologies and minimally invasive techniques.
  • The course is designed to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills in a highly specialized environment, promoting active learning and evidence-based clinical decision-making.

Course objectives:

  • Provide participants with updated, evidence-based knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of complex biliary strictures
  • Train participants in multidisciplinary therapeutic strategies, particularly in the drainage of malignant hilar obstructions
  • Improve decision-making skills through interactive case-based learning and discussion
  • Offer practical experience in advanced endoscopic and radiologic techniques, especially in patients with altered surgical anatomy
  • Explore the role of high-quality biliary drainage in enhancing outcomes in the era of novel systemic treatments, including immunotherapy
  • Promote the integration of theoretical knowledge with technical competence in a highly specialized setting

Educational methods:

  • Lectures with interactive discussions between participants and Faculty members
  • Supervised hands-on training on ex-vivo models and mechanical simulators
