Description:
Before the in-person activities, participants will have access to online lectures with key learning information that will aid their performance during case discussions and practical exercises in the Fundamentals of Fracture Management Course. Important information on concepts and skills will be covered to help participants develop their careers in operative fracture management. The online portion begins three weeks before the in-person event, with two distance learning modules each week. We also offer a forum for questions about the content and interaction with instructors. Participants must complete the online portion before attending the in-person course. The online portion focuses on knowledge and attitudes, while the in-person portion covers skills training. Goal:
We are pleased to invite you to the AO Trauma Combined Course—Basic Principles of Fracture Management, which teaches fundamental principles and current concepts in injury treatment, incorporating the latest techniques in operative fracture management. The AO Trauma Basic Principles course is the first step in the lifelong learning process in operative fracture management, and the primary focus of this course is on the basic principles of fracture management.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

• Discuss the concepts of stability, its influence on bone healing, and how to apply implants to achieve adequate stability. 
• Plan treatment based on assessment, imaging, classification, and decision-making. 
• Apply reduction techniques in fracture management with attention to the importance of soft tissue. 
• Use appropriate fixation techniques to treat diaphyseal and simple (peri)articular fractures. 
• Assess and recognize special problems related to fractures in the immature skeleton, pelvic injuries, osteoporotic fractures, postoperative infections, and delayed or nonunion. 
• Plan the initial management of the polytrauma patient.
