Alaska Iditarod & Ski CME Course is organized by Wild Med Adventures, LLC and will be held from Mar 06 - 14, 2026 in Anchorage, Alaska, United States of America.

Description:
Watch the Ceremonial Iditarod Start in Anchorage, Alaska and participate in the Annual Fur Rondy Events.  We will take a float plane on skis and land on Shell Lake in rural Alaska, 100 miles from the road system. Stay in custom made cabins on Shell Lake, ice fish on the frozen lake, and ski the back trails along the Iditarod Trail.  We’ll gather with the local and tight-knit community by the bonfire on the second night of the Iditarod to watch the sled dog teams pass through and even catch the northern lights. We’ll build snow shelters while learning the best of the winter wilderness medicine skills.  Abundant snow but daytime comfortable temperatures in March Alaska. An unforgettable adventure awaits. Join this small, private and unique adventure.

Main Educational Objectives:

• The goal of the Wilderness Medicine for the Outdoor Enthusiast is to provide participants with a unique environment to experience essential medically-related topics and learn skills while enjoying educational activities including lectures, hands on work-shops, training modules and outdoor excursions.
• Development of this CME curriculum is formed by the following key objectives:
  • Provide educational opportunities based on core curriculum of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
  • Provide education of value to providers who care for the medical needs and also those involved with coordination of outdoor related educational activities, including medical providers who must educate and instruct outdoor safety with their patients.
  • Provide education of interest to wilderness and austere-activity enthusiasts.
• After attending this conference, the participants will be able to:
  • Establish a set of treatment priorities for care of the sick or injured in remote settings.
  • Prevent, diagnose, and manage illnesses and injuries in austere environments.
  • Demonstrate increased knowledge and skill in recognizing and treating the most common illnesses and injuries encountered in remote environments, including hyperthermia, hypothermia, cold injuries, and wound management.
  • Understand objective risk-assessment in wilderness environments from the perspective of the medical professional acting as a trip leader.
  • Understand the pathophysiology and management of acute emergencies related to remote environments and managing these appropriately until definitive care can be received.
  • Perform a pre-departure assessment of the participant’s pre-existing medical conditions and plan an appropriate medical kit & care.
