The CAPD/ACDP 2025 Annual Conference in the vibrant city of Calgary, Alberta. This year’s meeting promises to be an exceptional gathering of pediatric dental professionals, offering invaluable education, collaboration, and camaraderie.

We are kicking off on Thursday September 18, 2025, with an exceptional pre-course by SuperMouth, Oral Care Products Uncovered: 10 Myths That Could Be Holding Your Patients—Young & Old—Back, presented by the Dr. Kami Hoss. This session will provide critical insights into the evolving landscape of oral care products and how they impact our patients’ health.

Our Scientific Committee, alongside the CAPD/ACDP National Annual Conference Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, chaired by the dedicated Dr. Sarah Hulland, has put together a spectacular weekend. We have curated a lineup of renowned speakers and top-tier educational courses, all centered around this year’s important theme: Navigating the 'Rocky' Road to Mental Health. As pediatric dentists, we recognize the growing need to address mental health not only in our patients but also in ourselves and our profession, and this conference will provide key discussions on this crucial topic.

We are honoured to welcome Drs. Michael Swetye and Jamil Janraj, two esteemed psychiatrists who will guide us through the top ten mental health challenges facing today’s youth. Their presentations will explore topics such as managing anxiety and panic attacks, setting healthy boundaries, understanding transference and countertransference, and navigating the impact of “simple stories.” Their sessions will include a specific focus on the Canadian perspective and clinical application. They have generously offered to incorporate case vignettes from your practices—an email will follow shortly inviting your submissions in preparation for this valuable discussion.

We are also pleased to feature the Calgary Police Service, who will provide critical insights into the realities of child abuse and neglect—covering physical, sexual, and emotional harm. Their session will emphasize our roles as healthcare professionals in identifying, reporting, and supporting affected children.

Closing out Saturday’s program, we are excited to present a collaborative session with Pediatric Anesthesiologists Drs. Nivez Rasic and Meggie Livingstone, and Pediatric Psychologist Dr. Jamie Beveridge. Together, they will explore the landscape of pediatric pain—both acute and chronic—focusing on awareness, evolving pharmacologic management, and coping strategies. They’ll also discuss the role parents play in both supporting and complicating dental care for children.
