43rd Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE) and the 20th Congress of the Portuguese Association of Epidemiology (APE) is organized by GEYSECO.es, Canary Islands Public Health Society / Sociedad Canaria de Salud Publica (SCSP), Canary Islands Health Service / Servicio Canario de la Salud (SCS), University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria / Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and will be held from Sep 02 - 05, 2025 at Obelisk Campus, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, Spain.
Description:
The theme "Ethics, Lifestyles, and Action in Public Health" addresses essential topics that deserve prominence in the current debate.
Ethics! The inclusion of ethics in public health was almost mandatory at this SEE/APE Congress. It's crucial at this time to reflect on responsible scientific conduct, focusing on quality rather than quantity, and on transparency in decision-making that affects people's health.
Lifestyle habits! As the main modifiable determinant of health, we felt it was only fair to give it the prominent role it deserves. Transforming habits to improve individual and collective well-being is a key public health challenge, requiring a multidisciplinary and intersectoral approach, essential for the sustainability of healthcare systems. Furthermore, we are facing new and growing emerging habits such as e-cigarettes and energy drinks.
Action in public health! We will reflect on the need to move from theory to action in public health, always grounded in scientific evidence with rigorous studies and data analysis. Public health action is closely related to both ethics and lifestyles. We will take this opportunity to reflect on field epidemiology and immediate response in crisis or disaster situations such as the DANA, volcanic eruptions, and migration crises.
