WIT 2024 - 42nd Vienna Intensive Medicine Days Inflammation is organized by Campus Congress Management / Campus Kongressmanagement, Austrian Society for Internal and General Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine / Osterreichische Gesellschaft fur Internistische und Allgemeine Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin (OGIAIN) and will be held from Feb 14 - 17, 2024 at Lecture hall center of the Medical University of Vienna, Vienna, Wien, Austria.

Advanced training in an interdisciplinary and interprofessional circle at the highest level offer level.

The WIT-2024 will have the theme “Inflammation”. Inflammation is the central pathophysiological principle of most acute, but also chronic illnesses. Inflammation is not only triggered by Infections but also through tissue damage or therapeutic Interventions such as ventilation and biocompatibility of extracorporeal circuits. It is the most important determinant of the course of the disease and its occurrence of complications, multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, and prognosis.

The pathophysiological basis and interactions are discussed in coagulation activation, immunoparalysis, vasoparalysis, and organ failure, as well as the main hyperinflammatory syndromes.
The various therapeutic strategies such as steroids, Anti-cytokines, immunoglobulins, extracorporeal procedures, metabolic Interventions, and nutrition are discussed.

Finally, “low-grade” inflammation usually persists after discharge also for the further course of life (PICS, post-ICU syndrome, cardiovascular Events, etc.) and determines the life expectancy of the patient: A
increasingly recognized, highly relevant problem, which is therefore discussed in the final meeting to be discussed.
