Needs Statement

Optimization of surgical candidates crossed multiple disciplines from primary care to surgical subspecialties. Many elective surgeries are cancelled or postponed unnecessarily due to lack of recognition of risk factors that can be optimized prior to surgery. It not only allows for patients to proceed with elective surgery safely but reduce post-operative complications. This lecture will also emphasize the importance of cooperation and communication across specialties for the benefit of the surgical patient.

Needs Statement

It is imperative for PAs to acquire expertise in treating and preventing HIV in primary care settings. This ensures early detection and intervention, leading to improved patient outcomes through timely initiation of antiretroviral therapy. Moreover, primary care involvement facilitates the prevention of HIV transmission by education patients on safe practices and offering pre-exposure prophylaxis to high-risk individuals. Integrating HIV care into primary care promotes holistic patient management, reduces stigma, and proves cost-effective. By expanding access to care, especially in underserved communities, primary care providers play a pivotal role in enhancing overall public health outcomes in the fight against HIV.

Antipsychotic medications are being used in a much broader number of conditions. However, many providers have limited knowledge about how these medications work and the side effects that accompany them.

1. To develop an understanding of how antipsychotic medications work
2. To recognize important side effects and contraindications of antipsychotic medications
3. To introduce new trends and uses for antipsychotic medications
