OVERVIEW

Pediatric Sedation and Pediatric Dental Sedation Outside of the Operating Room is organized by Boston Children's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School and will be held from Sep 09 - 10, 2023 at NYU College of Dentistry, New York City, New York, United States of America.

Description:
This course is intended to improve learner competence and performance by offering a comprehensive review of sedation, from the basics to evolving and state-of-the art practice (i.e. knowledge). Being prepared for rare and unanticipated emergencies as well as for the more common adverse events, the learner will be equipped to improve patient outcomes. The aim of this conference is to increase the participant’s breadth of knowledge of pediatric sedation and elaborate on ways to improve and track patient outcomes. Recognized leaders from multi-specialties will offer national and international perspectives.

Course Objectives:

  1. Recall and apply current recommendations regarding minimal, moderate and deep sedation.
  2. Evaluate the pharmacology and clinical application of commonly utilized sedatives and weigh the advantages, disadvantages, efficacy and adverse events associated with each option.
  3. Apply sedation concepts learned to evaluate complex and challenging sedation scenarios and formulate a plan.
  4. Provide a comprehensive review of the patient pre-sedation assessment necessary to identify appropriate candidates for procedural sedation.
  5. Implement recommended physiologic monitoring, including capnography, used to continuously assess patient status and to identify acute changes.
  6. Assess post-sedation readiness for discharge by applying standardized discharge criteria.
  7. Objectively consider sedative options based on patient condition, length and depth of targeted sedation and procedure to be performed.
  8. Employ non-pharmacologic techniques and strategies to minimize sedatives administered and improve the patient experience.
  9. Anticipate and prepare for sedation-related adverse events and perform rescue.
  10. Analyze recent changes in guidelines, regulations, policies and future developments in sedation systems and their impact on patient care.

Please note, the live in-person conference lectures will not be recorded nor available online. All options include a comprehensive, state-of-the-art syllabus with internationally renowned speakers.
