Many endocrine conditions, including diabetes mellitus, can cause dramatic manifestations that may require urgent medical intervention.
Diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, calcium disorders and thyroid diseases are very common in healthcare. All clinically active doctors, regardless of specialty, often encounter patients with one of these conditions in their everyday life. Diabetes is a growing public disease, often very multifaceted and complicated to treat. In recent years, there has been rapid development in the area. New medicines have been developed, we have gained more knowledge about prevention and about non-pharmacological treatment and its importance.
Obesity and dyslipidemia are closely related to diabetes and also to the so-called "metabolic syndrome". During the course days, we discuss new effective treatment methods.
In the field of osteoporosis, several completely new treatment options have been developed over the past decade. In addition, knowledge has increased about how to assess risk patients, which has contributed to more tailored treatment for the individual patient.
Abnormal thyroid tests are very common in the general population. The clinical picture can vary greatly from case to case and sometimes it is not easy to distinguish between what is sick and what is healthy. Patients seek GPs as well as various specialists for their problems. Many endocrine conditions including diabetes can produce dramatic manifestations that may require urgent medical intervention. For example, a missed Addison's disease or an undetected pituitary tumor can have fatal consequences. Generally speaking, endocrine disorders are thus something that often appears as a question in both simple and more complex patient cases. The course includes acute conditions as well as important secondary prevention.

Course objectives
The goal is for all course participants to achieve the goals set in the new regulations for ST education.
The basic purpose of the course is to give the individual participant a basis and a tool to be able to independently recognize, diagnose and, more basically, independently handle the most common endocrine disorders, osteoporosis and diabetes.
• To be able to take up an anamnesis that is relevant for patients with endocrine symptoms and diabetes
• To recognize external signs (status) in endocrine disease including diabetes
• To be able to perform a basic hormonal screening in case of suspected endocrine disease
• To know current drug treatment in the field and to be able to independently initiate treatment of the more basic diseases included
• Being able to determine when you need to write a referral to an endocrinologist for a more in-depth assessment
• To have the ability to search for evidence-based information in the field of endocrinology and diabetes
