Dizziness is a common reason for medical visits (Kroenke et al Am J Med 1990) and is estimated to affect 15-20% of adults annually. In the Scania region, dizziness makes up between 2 and 3% of all patient visits to health centers (Spreerapport 2010), in Norrland >2% of all emergency visits to hospitals (Ljunggren et al Eur Neurol 2018). In the United States, dizziness is the 3rd most common reason for patient visits under the age of 65 and the most common among patients >65 (Kroenke et al Am J Med 1989). Studies have also shown that half of dizziness patients leave the doctor's visit without having received a diagnosis, and about half of patients who received a diagnosis still do not feel helped. Diagnosing dizziness involves large and broad knowledge requirements in terms of recognizing patterns in medical histories, to examine and interpret clinical and more or less advanced technical investigations (Starkov et al J Neuros 2021). Missing correct diagnosis and treatment at the onset of dizziness can in itself lead to the onset of chronic dizziness and longer treatment/rehabilitation (Staab et al J Vestib Res 2017), in addition to absence from gainful employment/education and not least to a higher total cost (Granberg-Sandlund et al Eur Arch Otorhinolaryngol 2019).
