The DSTC is the intellectual property and registered trademark of the IATSIC (International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care), a subsidiary of the ISS-SIC (International Society of Surgery -Societé Internationale de Chirurgie) based in Switzerland.

It is a course that enjoys recognized international prestige, having been taught in more than 18 countries (Australia, Austria, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Greece, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, Yemen, Thailand, and Spain, among others).

The course is the next step to ATLS.

Based on the general principles of the ATLS, the DSTC course has been designed for training in surgical techniques required in trauma patients. This is done by combining theoretical classes, case discussions, and practical sessions in the experimental laboratory. The DSTC course addresses trauma care during the “ second hour ”, as opposed to the “ first hour or golden hour” of ATLS, and is flexible enough to accommodate the local needs of the country in which it is taught. It is addressed, then, to all those surgeons responsible for decision-making in trauma and with a non-exclusive or daily involvement with these patients.
