Ethics and Legislation for Doctors is organized by Etikutbildningar, Physicians' Institute for Professional Development in Healthcare / Lakarnas institut for professionell utveckling i sjukvarden (LIPUS) and will be held on Oct 23, 2023 at Elite Grand Hotel Norrkoping, Norrköping, East Gotanmaan lan, Sweden.
Description:
Ethics is a central part of health care. According to Swedish and international legislation and the codex, the professions of doctors and healthcare personnel must be carried out from an ethical and professional approach. The medical competence and experience are the basis for the professional activities of a doctor and other professional categories, but must also be based on universal ethical principles and values. Practicing one's profession in a satisfactory manner also requires knowledge of legislation and guidelines - which you need to have a knowledge and understanding of so that you can provide care and handle each patient based on the right conditions.
The more complex health care becomes, the more difficult questions arise in care. Ethical values ??and principles are pitted against each other and create uncertainty about what is the most ethically justified way to handle a certain situation. Current legislation also provides guidelines on a more general level, but at the same time creates uncertainty in how they should be interpreted in situations that arise. This together creates an increasing need to discuss and analyze situations from various relevant aspects, clinical, ethical and legal. Discussions and analyzes are also best done in teams where everyone has an equally important role in arriving at what is best for the patient. Ethical analysis and application of legislation is a structured activity and requires knowledge, experience and time.
The fact that increasingly complex ethical questions arise within modern healthcare is also something that professional guidelines have taken note of. The guidelines for ST doctors contain both the requirements for increased knowledge in ethics and ethical analysis and knowledge of the laws that apply to one's own specialty or occupational category.
This course provides increased knowledge and the ability to handle ethical issues through ethical analysis and an increased knowledge of the laws and guidelines that apply.
