Description:
The ATLS ( Advanced Trauma Life Support ) course is an initial care course for multiple trauma patients from the American College of Surgeons.
It was taught for the first time in January 1980 at the national level in the United States and under the auspices of the American College of Surgeons. The international promulgation of the course began in 1980. Every year the program grows in the number of courses and participants. To date, the course has trained more than 1.5 million participants in more than 75,000 courses around the world. Today ATLS has become the standard for emergency room trauma care in America and in more than 30 countries worldwide.
The ATLS Course emphasizes the importance of assessment and treatment , beginning at the time the accident occurred and continuing through initial assessment, resuscitation, reassessment, stabilization, and transfer when necessary to a trauma center.
The ATLS Course consists of a pre-exam and another at the end of the course , lectures on the main content, interactive presentation of cases, discussions, the development of life-saving skills, practical experiences in the laboratory and a final practical evaluation.
This tenth edition of the ATLS course manual reflects several changes that have been incorporated in order to increase the educational content and improve its visual presentation.
