Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital Trek

Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital Trek is organized by Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) and will be held from Mar 27 - Apr 09, 2022 at Solukhumbu Region, Kathmandu, Bagmati, Nepal.

Target Audience:
Physicians and other Medical Care Providers who have an interest in providing medical care in “remote” environments such as wilderness settings or in developing countries are encouraged to attend. 

Physicians counseling their patients traveling to remote areas will benefit as well.

Description:
The Wilderness Medical Society and our prestigious Nepal partner, Wongchhu Peak Promotion, invite you to join us this March/April 2022 for a once-in-a-lifetime CME adventure and highly-anticipated Inauguration Ceremony of the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital – a monumental event you won’t want to miss!

Who:
This trek requires participants to walk uphill for up to 4-6 hours a day and carry a light day pack including water, snacks, and an extra jacket, but heavy duffels will be portered.  This trek is a CME course for medical professionals, but is also open to any non-medical outdoor enthusiasts interested in supporting a great cause. 

Cost includes the following:
• All ground transportation i.e. arrival and departure to the airport, sightseeing & hotel transfer,
• 4 star Hotel in KTM for 2 nights pre (Hotel Mulberry) and two nights post trip (Nepali Ghar), including breakfast
• City tour of Boudhanath & Pashupatinath,
• Transportation, tour guide and entrance tickets during the city tour,
• Flight from KTM-Lukla & Phaplu-KTM,
• Helicopter flight from Tengboche to Khamding Hospital site
• Accommodations including food during trek,
• 2-night stay at Hospital Site in tents,
• Guides & porters during the trek to carry the luggage
• All cost for trekking permit i.e. Sagarmatha National Park fees & Khumbu Pasang Lhamu entrance fees
• Salary & insurance for all Nepali staff
• Nirvana Jacket

Cost does not include the following:
• Meals in Kathmandu (except welcome and farewell dinner),
• Extra night accommodations in Kathmandu because of early arrival, late departure, early return from mountain (due to any reason) than the scheduled itinerary,
• If required to change from airplane to helicopter to/from Lukla & Phaplu due to weather issues, the additional cost of the helicopter will be shared amongst clients (approximately $1,000 per person)
• Beverages and alcoholic drinks on the trek,
• Personal trekking equipment,
• All personal expenses, including Nepal Visa (for country entrance),
• Personal medical, evacuation and trip cancellation insurance
• All other additional charges for additional services, including recommended tip of $250/person for the entire trek
• Additional tips for tour guide, others as one sees fit
• Personal purchases.

Objectives:
This course is designed to educate participants in the pathophysiology, recognition and treatment of a variety of medical problems commonly encountered in wilderness environments and settings remote from hospital or definitive care.
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Establish a set of treatment priorities for care of the sick or injured in wilderness settings.
• Demonstrate basic aspects of improvised care, rescue and evacuation.
• Learn basic field skills enabling a physician to be more capable in a ssetting remote from definitive care.
