OVERVIEW

Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) MedSail 2022 is organized by Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) and will be held from Jan 15 - 22, 2022 at British Virgin Islands (BVI Yacht Charters), Road town, Virgin Islands, British.

Target Audience:
The target audience includes physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and mariners who work or play, or who are medically responsible for the health and safety of others in marine environments.

A full COVID-19 vaccine is required for all participants and trip leaders.
• Please join us for the perfect mix of education, fun and luxury sailing, in the British Virgin Islands
• Medical professionals will earn 17 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. However, you needn't be a medical professional to join MedSail 2022. This event is open to any sailor who wants to feel safer and more knowledgeable on the water.
• Make arrangements to sail aboard a BVI Yatch Charters bareboat with a hired captain or captain your own boat, choosing from a fleet of bareboats, ranging in size from 31 to 54-ft., monohulls or catamarans.
• The WMS will conduct a 3-4 hour seminar each morning. After the seminar is over, your group will sail to a different anchorage each day, with stops along the way for snorkeling, hiking or just relaxing.

Objectives:
Following this program, we expect participants will be able to:
• Learn how to treat common medical problems, traumatic injuries, and medical emergencies encountered in recreational boating, and diving.
• Describe the nature and treatment of illness and injuries from hazardous marine life and seafood toxins.
• Describe the pathophysiology, treatment, and prevention of environmental threats faced by mariners e.g., hypothermia, lightning, cold water immersion, and solar injury.
• Describe the principles of health and safety at sea, and the measures to prevent accidents, illness, injury, and death at sea.
• Review the principles of medically safe scuba diving.
• Review the causes and prevention of drowning, and the treatment of submersion incidents in warm and cold water.
• Review the new emergency communication systems used in search and rescue, medical evacuation, and telemedicine.
• Become familiar with the unique supplies and requirements of a marine medical kit.
• Know the basic principles of travel medicine.

    Cancellation and Refund Policy (WMS):
    • Written request to cancel
    • $200 fee before and no refunds after December 15, 2021

    Basic Requirements:
    After you've registered, we'll need to get several things from you:
    Signed WMS Release of Liability
    Adventure medical review form
    • A copy of your passport
    • Emergency Contact Information
    • Travel itinerary
    • A copy of your COVID-19 Vaccine card
    • Evidence of evacuation insurance (we suggest Global Rescue), evidence of medical insurance coverage, evidence of medical repatriation coverage
    • Evidence of trip interruption/ cancellation insurance (we suggest IMG through Global Rescue)
