Treatment of the Child with Severe Impairments is organized by Education Resources, Inc. (ERI) and will be held from Oct 02 - 03, 2020 at P G Chambers School, Cedar Knolls, New Jersey, United States of America.

Target Audience:
This course is appropriate for Occupational Therapists, Occupatinal Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants. Information is relevant for children across the lifespan. Beginner to Intermediate Level.

CEU Details:
• This course meets the criteria for 13.5 contact hours (1.35 CEUs). Application has been made to the NJ Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. This course meets the requirements of acceptable continuing education by the NE Board of Physical Therapy. The WI Board of Physical Therapy recognizes other state board's approvals. This workshop meets accepted standards for continuing competence as outlined by the CT General Statutes.
• Approved provider by the NY State Board of Physical Therapy for 16.2 contact hours.
• Approved provider of continuing education by the American Occupational Therapy Association #3043, for 13.5 contact hours - Intermediate Level Occupational Therapy Process: assessment, intervention. Description:
A lab-based course teaching treatment strategies, handling techniques, and achievable goals for children with severe physical limitations, with or without cognitive impairments, in clinical settings, home care, school-based practice, and hospitals.

Treating children with severe physical impairments, with or without cognitive impairments presents unique challenges. This course is designed for physical, occupational and speech-language pathologists who work with this population and want to expand their skills. We will explore the challenges of working in various settings and how to set treatment priorities for each setting. We will discuss realistic, functional goal setting and how to work to make goals achievable. We will explore dosing for this population who require lifelong service and how to build in carryover when not in active treatment. Practical labs working with an adult partner and doll will reinforce treatment concepts.

Objectives:
• The student will be able to set functional, achievable goals for a child with severe impairments
• The student will be able to understand the role of standardized testing and the evaluation process for this population
• The student will be able to identify system impairments that may interfere with function
• The student will be able to identify at least 3 physical problems that can affect the child as an adult
• The student will be able to demonstrate 3 treatment strategies for treatment of the child with severe impairments
