Overview:
Recognizing nervous system disorders early and caring for them properly is crucial in treating the pediatric patient. Physicians may spend a lot of time working with the patient before making a probable diagnosis a specific
neurologic condition. This program will educate healthcare providers on how to shorten time spent making diagnoses and help enhance treatment plans. The program is intended for healthcare providers interested in the shared and unique
mechanisms in nervous system disorders, as well as learning about emerging therapies and novel imaging modalities. It is intended to update primary care practitioners, adult and pediatric neurologists, family practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and other interested individuals regarding the diagnosis and management of nervous system disorders in children.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

• Recognize and describe cognitive impairment as a co-morbidity in epileptic encephalopathies in children and how recurrent seizures during development impact cognition.
• Identify and describe recent developments in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric-onset MS.
• Identify and distinguish current treatments for pediatric brachial plexus injury and choose treatments that are the most efficacious.
• Identify, describe and employ recent developments in craniofacial surgery for pediatric neurosurgery.
• Identify genetic causes of pediatric dystonia and describe current algorithms for diagnosis and management.
• Identify current and new developments for treatment of acute stroke and employ treatments that are most appropriate for adolescents.
• Characterize and recognize the renal component of tuberous sclerosis and apply appropriate diagnostic and treatment strategies.
• Identify and describe diagnostic and treatment strategies for infants with epilepsy and operate within a multidisciplinary team.
• Identify, recognize and assess non-seizure comorbidities in pediatric epilepsy.
• Analyze and appraise diagnostic information and recommend treatment interventions and strategies.
• Identify and recognize abnormal movements in children and select appropriate diagnostic and treatment strategies.
• Examine and summarize pediatric diagnostic imaging and identify pathology correctly.
• Describe new antiepileptic drug formulations/treatment targets and employ new treatments effectively.

This seminar has been designed to encompass state-of-the-art practices and trends in treating pediatric neurology patients. Through case-based learning and didactic lectures, faculty who are both clinically and academically oriented
will address relevant issues and provide valuable information and insight into situations commonly presented to subspecialists in pediatric neurology
