This full-day intensive course covers the basics of phlebotomy and IV nutrition therapy. It explains the administration of various IV nutrition cocktails and products commercially available. It will incorporate both a didactic and a hands-on practical component for techniques taught in the course. The course will be held in a clinical educational environment and all students will receive a Certificate of Completion upon completion of the course.
IV (intravenous) nutrient infusion therapy is a method of delivering solutions of vitamins and minerals directly into the blood stream with infusions. The demand for this therapy for cosmetic purposes has been increasing over the years.
IV Nutrition Infusion Therapy is a comprehensive course designed for beginners in the field of aesthetic medicine or for professionals who are willing to add this service to their current list of procedures.
In this course, you will get introduced to the most common vitamin and mineral “cocktails” available for cosmetic purposes. We will provide a full understanding of intravenous nutrition therapy as well as how to administer safely for your client in order to receive the most effective results.
The first portion of the course is focused on Phlebotomy and securing the IV line. This part of the course is composed of the theory and practical part practicing on manikins and also live models. The second portion of this course is introducing the most common IV nutrition treatment packages available in the market and how to administer them based on the need of your client. This portion also begins with the theory and continues with hands-on practice on the live models.
Learning Prerequisites:
• In-depth knowledge of anatomy and peripheral blood vessels (specially veins)
• Must be licensed and practicing healthcare professional in Canada to practice techniques taught in this program.
• Familiar with retrieving information, articles, and reference books.
• Familiar with the safety practice guidelines for intravenous therapy for the health care professionals and patients
Learning Objectives:
• Learn the basics of phlebotomy and how to secure the IV line
• Learn the fundamental principles of intravenous therapy
• Develop the ability to competently assess and consult the patient before administering the IV nutrition
• Develop an in-depth knowledge on vein anatomy and physiology and IV medication administration
• Become familiar with the various benefits of IV nutrition therapy
• Know potential contraindications and complications of each treatment method and how to deal with adverse patient outcomes to treatment
Teaching Methods
All classes will be taught by licensed professionals practicing in the field of medical aesthetics. The theoretical component will incorporate visual references, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and case studies for teaching purposes. The practical part of the course will follow the guidelines to make sure all the students have a chance to experience the hands-on practice.
