Course details:
On April 16, 2019, the FDA issued an order to the companies to retrieve all their vaginal implants to treat POP. This came after the claim of the FDA that companies failed to bring elements to prove that the benefit of those mesh overcame their risks. This order did not involve the sacro-colpopexy mesh neither the TVT/TOT meshes. In Europe, the UK NHS has banned the meshes, and it is clear that other countries' governments will do the same . It will become difficult for patients to understand the difference between vaginal and abdominal implants and we are encountering the risk that globally the use of meshes to treat the POP will be abandoned, which also involves the incontinence aspect. While it is our duty to fight those decisions, which do not rely on consistent data, it is also our responsibility to prepare and develop new techniques that offer acceptable results without the use of meshes. The goal of this course is to provide an overview of the current situation, to counsel doctors on what to do and what not, and to present all available alternative techniques for both POP and Stress incontinence. Participants will have the opportunity to make their mind with the help of plenary lectures, live surgeries and practical hands-on Workshops.
