Description

Day 1

Highlights of the NM Cardiothoracic Symposium include trends in cardiovascular disease management, and breakout sessions on VADs, hemodynamic monitoring, trach management, pacemakers and chest tubes and heart rhythms.

Day 2

Highlights of the NM Cardiothoracic Symposium include trends in interventional cardiology, use of ECMO for post cardiac arrest treatment and circulatory support, and perioperative nursing management of thoracic surgery patients.

Learning OutCome: As a result of attending this conference, attendees will have the knowledge to provide evidence-based care and education for cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery patients.

Learning Objectives:

Day 1

• Discuss the latest novel therapies for the management of heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and
cardiovascular disease.
• Describe the nursing implications for various cardiovascular treatment modalities.
• Cite the latest pharmacotherapies used in the management of cardiac diseases and stroke prevention.
• Review past research studies used to provide the best evidence-based guidelines in practice today.
• Analyze the continuum of care for patients with advanced cardiovascular disease.

Day 2

• Explain the pathophysiology of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vascular disease.
• Identify the latest therapies and treatments for pulmonary vascular diseases.
• Examine the pathophysiology of hyperlipidemia, current pharmacology, treatments and nursing implications.
• Recognize common complications and nursing interventions for the care of the open heart surgery patient.
• List the nursing implications for the management of patients with cardiogenic or respiratory shock on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
