Mellen Center Update in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is organized by Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education and will be held on Jun 28, 2019 at Intercontinental Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio, United States of America.

Target Audience:
This update is intended for physicians and other health care practitioners engaged in the care of patients with MS and related disorders. We will cover a broad range of topics of value to the health care professional and allow for interaction time with attendees. It will also be valuable for those involved in rehabilitation of patients with MS.

Description:
Welcome to the Mellen Center Update in Multiple Sclerosis 2019. This is our 12th year; hard to believe but true. As usual our steering committee has come up with a variety of sessions that cover the span of disease diagnosis to management, as well as important considerations in working with and for people with MS. It is our privilege to bring you what’s new and novel in MS as well as where we are going with related disorders.

This year we have Dr. Daniel Pelletier from the University of Southern California to talk about novel directions in MS imaging. In addition Dr. Bruce Trapp will update us on pathogenesis of neurological disability in MS. We will have a variety of discussions and talks led by Mellen staff, and for the first time will have a talk about neurosarcoidosis, an important related immune disease of the nervous system. We will touch on shared decision making, treating MS in special populations, immunization and MS, and the use of technology in MS care. We will have an afternoon session dedicated to newer approaches to rehabilitation in the MS patient. We hope you find this day stimulating, useful, and informative.

Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
• Detail recent technical advances in imaging and describe their impact on diagnosis and monitoring of MS.
• Analyze research and outcomes for disease-modifying therapies and immunizations and describe their potential use in MS management strategies.
• Critically analyze recent data on neurologic research in MS and describe their implications for clinical practice.
• Summarize the benefits and risks of newer approaches to rehabilitating patients with MS.
• Describe strategies for shared decision-making with patients, dealing with special populations, and caring for caregivers.
