Heartland Hospital Medicine (HHM) Conference is organized by UK HealthCare CECentral and will be held from Aug 22 - 24, 2019 at Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa, Lexington, Kentucky, United States of America.

Target Audience:
The Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference will be beneficial to all clinicians involved in caring for patients in the inpatient setting. This includes physicians from internal medicine and family medicine, as well as advanced practice providers who care for patients in the hospital setting.

Accreditation:
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC Recognition Statement:
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 10 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Description:
The HHM Conference presented by UK Healthcare’s academic physician faculty as well as invited regional and national leaders. The Heartland region, including the Appalachian region, has large areas of underserved populations, with poor health indicators in comparison to the rest of the country. Our hope is to improve the quality and effectiveness of the first line of care received before complex patients require transfer to the university hospital setting for more advanced care. This means that these vulnerable patients sometimes are treated at outlying facilities with no local specialty or sub-specialty support. Such factors make the initial care provided in the community that much more important.

This conference will strive to provide educational opportunities to the clinicians who may otherwise have limited access to educational offerings. The region that our conference targets is served predominantly by physicians in small communities working with community hospitals. There are geographical and logistical barriers to CME participation with this group of providers. Specifically, because providers in this region often operate in environments with very limited physician presence, these providers are strongly deterred from taking extended periods of time off for CME opportunities. The HHM Conference will provide a local opportunity for first class educational programming including 22 topic discussions to choose from, an abstract and poster competition, a comprehensive review of updates in HM, and the opportunity to earn up to 20 hours of CME to improve practice without requiring an extended departure from clinical obligations.

Objectives:
As a result of participating in the Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference, participants will be able to:
• Identify strategies to initiate and transition medically assisted treatment for opioid dependence.
• Describe contemporary trends in cardiology, including device technology, risk stratification tools, and oral antithrombotics.
• Discuss clinical topics pertinent to critical care, including sepsis, ventilator management, cirrhosis, venous thromboembolism, and interstitial lung disease.
• Identify management strategies for infectious disease syndromes such as sepsis and endocarditis.
• Apply evidence-based medicine to optimize the value of test ordering.
• Discuss high-impact publications in the field of hospital medicine.
• Review scientific posters presenting clinical vignettes and innovations from around the region.
