Global Neurosurgery 2019: A Practical Symposium is organized by Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) and will be held from Jan 18 - 19, 2019 at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell, New York City, New York, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is health care providers with an interest in improving neurosurgical care in developing nations. These providers include practicing physicians, residents and fellows, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners, and medical students. The course will be of special interest to primary care physicians as well as those who specialize in neurosurgery, emergency medicine, neurology, trauma, and surgery. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.

Course Description:
This course will bring together neurosurgeons and health policy leaders from around the world who are involved in the training and education of neurosurgeons in developing countries. These assembled leaders will review the current status of neurosurgery in developing countries and the neurosurgical support coming from North America and Europe, identify key factors for success in overcoming barriers for the development of sustainable global neurosurgery models, identify key failures, and identify ways for neurosurgery health care providers to get involved in a meaningful way.

There is significant limitation in education, training and access to neurosurgery on a global scale which results in unnecessary morbidity and mortality from neurosurgical conditions. This leads to a critical public health concern in many developing countries. The public health impact of this performance gap has been widely published.

Course Objectives:
By the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: 
• define global neurosurgery resources by region; 
• understand the needs, obstacles, and successful practices for developing programs by region;
• plan to become involved in neurosurgical program development in their region of interest; and
• have defined a research area of interest and potentialcollaborations to pursue this interest.
